A Little History...

Dog Chasing Kitty

Heartwood Animal Hospital opened its doors for the first time January 2, 2000 and has steadily grown to a practice that now treats patients for over 4,000 clients.

Our mission is to take pride in providing a skilled, veterinary team committed to compassionate, quality care for our patients, clients, and community.  We are guided by hearts filled with Christian principles in a family environment of learning and enjoyment.

Where did Heartwood Animal Hospital get its name?  Long before Dr. Crumley became a veterinarian, she imagined raising Bernese Mt. Dogs under the kennel name Heartwood.  Fine craftsmen in woodworking value the heartwood lumber as the strongest and most beautiful part of the tree.  She imagined a place where strong and beautiful dogs would be developed.  Although the vision of breeding kennel changed to a veterinary hospital, she still stands by the name, Heartwood, as a reminder that we are developing strong, healthy animals.  The heart of this hospital is based on building a lasting relationship with people who care passionately for pets.

Like our doctors and specialists, the team members of Heartwood Animal Hospital are dedicated and highly trained individuals.  In addition to rigorous on-the-job training, the staff regularly attends continuing education in areas such as customer service, computer skills, dentistry, surgery, and nursing care.  Heartwood offers many opportunities for learning and employs college students pursuing degrees in veterinary medicine and veterinary technology.

Veterinary supporting roles include receptionist, groomer, assistant, caretaker and manager.  These dedicated people perform roles that are sometimes thankless jobs with little recognition other than that of a grateful lick, purr or tail wag.  Their love for animals and dedication to something more than a job brings them to work every day.
